Fresh fruit/berries/vegetables are the basis of any juice or juice drink. These are the healthiest as they contain a huge amount of vitamins. Still, storage conditions and seasonality are important to consider.

In second place is fresh. This is freshly squeezed juice that has not been subjected to any heat treatment. The only downside of this produce is that it has to be consumed the first 20-25 minutes following preparation.

Not-from-concentrate juices rank third. These are the juices manufactured under Galicia brand. They have the main advantage of not containing sugar, water or colouring agents. This is a natural juice you can buy on store shelves.

Fourth in our pyramid is 100% reconstituted juice, made from concentrated juice. Concentrated juices are a product obtained by evaporating the moisture from not-from-concentrate juices. About 800-840 mL of moisture is evaporated from 1 litre of juice to make 200-160 mL of a substance similar in consistency to liquid honey. T.B. Fruit is the European largest manufacturer of apple concentrate. Due to the high product quality, T.B. Fruit’s concentrated juices are used as ingredients of juice products in more than 40 countries.

Nectars are on the fifth place of our pyramid. Nectars are manufactured using the principle of reconstituted juices, meaning that they are recovered from a concentrate by adding water. Nectars have a much higher water content of 900 mL.

Juice drinks are in the last position. Whether they belong in the juice pyramid is questionable, as at least 970 mL of water is added to the concentrate per 1 litre of drink. Frequently, these beverages are made into carbonated drinks.
